South Africa Rugby Union (SARU) has invited the Lady Cranes to participate in the inaugural Africa Women’s Cup 7’s Tournament being held in East London from the 7th to 9th August 2008. 16 teams tournament from all around the world have been invited: South Africa, Uganda, Kenya, Tunisia, Morroco, Zambia, Zimbabwe, Rwanda, England, Wales, France, USA, Canada, New Zealand, Australia and Samoa. The organizers see this high profile rugby tournament as an opportunity for teams to prepare for the IRB7’s World Cup in 2009. The final day of the tournament (9th August) also coincides with the South African National Women’s Day.
After opting out of the Tunisia Easter tournament due to lack of funds, the Lady Cranes will be glad to have a chance to get some games under their belts before the African World Cup qualifiers that are slated for September.
